The artworks in the exhibition will change over time; they are made from plants growing in north Argyll, and are part of a series ‘Place Without Possession' which reimagines traditional national flags using delicate hand-pressed flowers and invites us to consider nations defined by care for our natural world as opposed to the symbol of a flag usually associated with the authority of nation-state entities.

Historically, flags have been used to mark territory, borders or create fixed systems of identity and instruction but by reconstructing these coded systems and symbols with organic, slowly changing materials, the works move away from authority and ownership towards something more peaceful: ideas of place, connection and our evolving relationship with nature and borderless lands.
Artist Lorna Freytag’s practice has taken her to New York, Sydney, Dubai and London to examine how nature is categorised, standardised and visually organised, referencing systems and methods of classification.
