Alan Grieve

Alan Grieve's images bring a welcome iconoclastic tone to the narratives of this exhibition reminding us that, here in Scotland, we know not to take ourselves too seriously.

Acting as a beacon of insight for folk weary of Tourism-Agency-Lore, he explores and explodes the sanctity of the familiar with his on-target turn of phrase and juxtaposition of imagery, grounding us in the new, everyday and not-yet-formed reality of contemporary west Scotland.

At first cheeky, these artworks bring their own wisdom and sense of reassurance that what we all know under the surface of polished identities is actually ok to say out-loud, and to have a good laugh while doing so, celebrating our love of ‘Scottishness’ that we all share.
